Road Runner Barn Find

Classic Car Barn FindRoad Runner Barn Find.  So you don’t believe in a barn find Eh? Here is another one of these true, classic car barn find stories, so trust me, you can still find them, and they’re still out there.  Now you ask yourself, how do I know this story is true? Well, this one is from a reliable source, the “Canadian Hot Rod Magazine”. And they believed it enough to put it on their front cover.

Classic car Barn Find story came from family, and they wouldn’t lie to a Kin . . . would they

author with a coronavirus on maskIn this barn find, well it was actually a garage find. The rumors have it that the cousin’s wife comes up to him and whispers in his ear. You’ve been good all these years, provided the family with all the niceties and “Now it’s your Time”.  That Camaro SS you always wanted, now is that time for you. My cousin got the word, “go and find your dream car she said.

Well, the feelers are out, the word is out on the streets, “barn find” is on the move.  “After all these years I’m on the hunt for my favorite all-time car,” he says.  They looked and looked and then one day at the office, the wife was talking to her co-workers, “if any you ladies know where there is a classic car sitting, let me know”. OK. Well as the story goes, this lady in the next booth says, yeah, I have this beater in my garage and I want it OUT. “I want my garage back”

This classic car “#barnfind” was stored in this ladies  garage for

“Thirty years, and I want it out, GONE “… She says!

If any car that has been sitting in a closed area, out of the weather for 30 years, that’s a pickers dream come true no matter what it was!

Next day, they lifted the garage door, all you saw were boxes, and then more boxes. Are you sure there something under there? I never moved anything she said. Pulled these boxes aside that have been accumulating all these years, piled up, stacked beside this lump, and after a few minutes of digging, they could finally see something that resembled a… car HOOD.

∞∞ After seeing the custom metal flake paint job on what they could see, “I’LL TAKE IT.” He yells out.

The car turned out to be a Plymouth Road Runner with a long history of a famous body shop in the area. I remember these guys “Chuck & Johns “body shop that’s come and gone. As a matter of fact,  they were the only ones in the area that did fancy paint jobs.

So, as well as it looked for being in storage for 30 years, very little work was needed to start and run this classic beauty. Sure, we all know that brakes, tune-up and the general repairs from sitting had to freshen up,  but overall it was as they say in the automotive industry,

“That was a good Score.”

So are these BARN FINDS or in this case a “GARAGE FIND” are they still around? I guess they are. Checkbarn find logo out my other read on (link) (the-most-unexpected-places-to-buy-things) “cars”.

“As of posting I just noticed one of our (link)  car club members brought in this 1957 T-BIRD, (Thunderbird) and by the looks of it, it needs a complete restoration. But another good example of a Barn Finds”                                                                                                    STAY TUNED. I will tell you all about this T-Bird, and where it comes from. . .  well, when I know.

I’m always looking, with my head turning this way and that.  My neck gets sore just thinking about it, but, “We all have seen that type of person,” these people never sit still. “THAT’S ME”. And being that type of a person, it sure comes in handy when you’re looking for things to …purchase. Trust me we find these “Barn find”  I call them in the most unexpected places.

Wearing motorcycle helmets “IS” the law in Canada?

four motorcycle riders

With and without motorcycle helmets

Question, “Is wearing motorcycle helmets the law in Canada?”

. . . The answer to Canada’s Helmet Law is, yes! but only in most parts of Canada?   The law was, when riding your motorcycle on a public highway, helmets were mandatory, and yes even if you’re under the age of 18 and riding a tricycle. You have to abide by the law and “Wear a helmet”

Wearing motorcycle helmets is the law in Canada?

author photoThe helmet law was implemented in Canada under the “Traffic Safety Act” in the early 60s.  Dr. Eric Kung, a neurologist at Stamford Hospital specializing in head injuries. “Motorcycle accidents are the most common causes of traumatic brain injury,” and or death. Wearing helmets when riding would drastically reduce the force of impact on the brain and skull he said.

Behind the scenes, there is the extravagant cost load to the health care system due to such injuries, and they are most, considered preventable accidents. That’s two good reasons why Canada has (had) the motorcycle helmet law.

As per the article on Canada Helmet Law

Canada’s motorcycle helmet laws were easy to understand because they were fairly uniform across all 10 provinces and three territories: all operators and passengers on a motorcycle or motor-assisted bicycle must wear helmets at all times securely fastened under the chin. It implemented for our own health and welfare.

NATIONAL NEWS ON THE BIKE HELMET LAW

On listening to the national news, there was an article about the safety of wearing helmets and it led up to the story that some of the minority groups of our citizens are crying foul. They would like an exemption to the law, and the right not to wear helmets due to religious reasons, and it was,  just “discriminatory” besides.

The groups in question can (as the story goes) wear a helmet as long as their head was covered but they chose not to because of the inconvenience of taking the head-gear on and off in a private setting. Inconvenience? Yes. “I understand”, but to change Canadian laws because it’s an “inconvenience” to the operator.?

UPDATE:

That helmet law has been challenged and changed in 3 provinces and now, challenged and supposedly going to be changed by our new government in Ontario. The Sikhs minority are “now” allowed to ride their motorcycles without a helmet in the provinces of-

British Columbia

Manitoba

Alberta

ONTARIO GOVERNMENT IS CHANGING THE LAW

If our new Ontario government grants this group an exemption, then the rest of cyclists in Ontario should also be exempt from wearing the helmets by choice rather than by law.

“The health and safety issue doesn’t seem to be a valid argument anymore”.

The law change is grossly unfair to all Canadian Cyclists that are forced into wearing the helmet when some citizens do not.

Now remember, the helmet law was introduced for our own safety

I’d love to go for a ride with you, but I never get on one of those things “WITHOUT A HELMET”

(HEAD INJURIES) and of course, the cost of overloading the health care system, due to head injuries. What was not mentioned was that the cyclist insurance rates will probably go up because of fatalities or injuries due to not wearing your helmet.

Calgary-Stampede

∞∞ “If our government persists on changing laws to appease the selected few and not for all Canadian citizens as a whole, then “how” can they expect equality in this country from its people if they themselves do not set the “example”.  By, “NOT” treating all citizens equally, “Canada is”, part of the big problem” ∞∞

It is a choice to Ride or not to Ride and to abide by all rules and laws of the road, set down for the safety of all citizens of Canada, not the select few.

“NOTE”

This article is NOT about the majority, minority, OR choice of religions. It’s not even about the helmet law, it’s about equality for all, and I think . . . “This is at the root of our problems”, OR WILL BE.

Changing Dynamics of Car Clubs

rat fink gear jammer cartoon

Rat Fink gear jammer cartoon

The changing dynamics of Car Clubs, I mean the clubs are just, different today. In the early days of hot rodding, joining a local Car Club and fixing up and repairing your old beater was the thing everybody did. And the term HOT-ROD was Swapping this part out for that and painting our old cars to make them “Hot looking … PURTY”

And “Rods” well, they are the internal parts of every gas engine. When modifying an engine for more HP, we sometimes change the rods. Then you end up with my version of a “Hot Rod”. And that’s my story. Eh!

But the ever-changing dynamics of Car Clubs is “different today”.

According to Wikipedia the returning soldiers after the war were the first to start up the Hot Rodding Story. And  I would agree, “That’s where and when it all began” California. USA.

We were all mechanically inclined people back then. If it was broken we had to find a way to fix it and we did. Most of us needed a place to do our tinkering so we banded together and formed “CAR CLUBS”.

Today the fad has turned into a multi-million dollar industry. If you go online, you would have no problem finding any reproduced parts for your classic car or hot rod. Fiberglass, steel, HELL, you can buy molds to do your own casting and for those hard to find parts, you can even buy kits to do your own chroming, etc.

So yeah, It can be an expensive hobby.

This post is more about the many Car Clubs that were started and flourished during those times and like today, most are still around. But in part, today’s car clubs although still focused on classic cars and the sorts, they do a lot of unpublished charity work, with very little or no credit. A lot of these car clubs hold dances, pig roasts; they have cheap wing night for the public, car shows, etc. and most to all the proceeds/profits go to local charities.

Thousands of dollars are collected annually by these Car Clubs, “Just for charity

I you find any spelling or grammer mistakes CLICK HERE

However, the dynamics of Classic Car Clubs have changed since the beginning of the Hot Rodding story. New members are hard to find. Their beliefs are that cars of today are more complicated, sophisticated, and to the average person, they’re too intimidating to work on. And maybe they should be intimidated, but they are still “repairable”

Camaro Drag Racing Cartoon

SO, my answer would be, MAN MADE IT, MAN CAN FIX IT . . .  “That’s my slogan!”

Some Colorful Car Club Names . . . Like

Gear Jammers, Highwaymen, Shifters, Draggers of Ontario

But as the years passed, the dynamics of car clubs have swung in a different direction and new members just want to work on their own vehicles, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. They say classic cars are far too expensive of a hobby for the average person. One of our club members is referring to our club as a “social club” not a car club?

Could they or he be right?

ARE rebuilding classic cars and Hot Rods winding down?  Even though you can find all the parts known to man, car, or beast, it still could be a costly venture. The swap meets are a good example of how the trend might be slowing down. Every year the attendance seems to be falling, the decline of swap meet vendors is another telltale of a future slowdown.

Please check my other posting on Car Clubs

Are the classic car enthusiasts winding down or are we all just getting older? Well some of us are getting older but, nobody is taking up the hobby. Car swap meets are fine examples of the past car eras, but it does take new blood to carry on the tradition, and that’s, well, getting harder to find.

So, are the car clubs as we knew them slowly disappearing, yeah, maybe, but I think there will always be room for the younger generation, maybe a few of the new members can tinker on their own equipment and perhaps, learn a thing or two from the old members on Hot Rods.  Time will tell!
