Penny Bank Collecting is serious Business

I’ve collected, bought and sold penny banks in many shapes, styles, cast iron, and ceramic and so I was naturally drawn to this article.

Reading the Antique “The Wayback Times” paper, I noticed they had an article on mechanical banks by:

“Ask the Old Guy”.

This is a very informative paper for you collectors, Day-Trippers, and for people that would like to broaden their horizons on antiques or collectibles.

If you think you’re not a collector of anything this is what they say:

“IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 3 OF THE SAME ITEM

YOU’RE CONSIDERED A COLLECTOR”

If you’re thinking of starting a collection and you’re not sure what. Think … Piggy Banks, Banks, and more Piggy Banks.

You will be surprised, their hundreds of different styles of Mechanical and Still banks out there and they are a wonderful way to start A collection. They’re small ones; they’re big ones, commemorative space banks, the fun of the hunt.

President John F Kennedy was said to have a rocket ship bank on his desk in the Big Room. Maybe just a rumor?

Remember, if you have any more than 3, you’ve already started a collection.

Tit-bit of information.

Most of you Canucks don’t know that a lot of cast iron banks were made in Canadian foundries as filler jobs. (keep employees busy during slow times)

The Americans think that we copied their banks, which means our banks are a different size.

“I like to think they copied our banks. “ Eh!
