Is Canada at War

wild fires in BC

Map of all the fires in BC

Is Canada at war? NO! but Canada should have declared war on these 600 wildfires in  British Columbia, Canada. These fires are plaguing one of Canada’s most heavily wooded provinces in our country. Our Prime Minister should call it for what it is, a natural disaster of epic proportion. We should use everything, and I mean everything at our disposal to control this devastating event.

Declare war on these 600 wildfires IN B.C., well, maybe that’s going too far, but “State of Emergency” YES.

In my estimation, the federal government took far too long to send in extra help from our Armed Forces.  The feds. should have declared  “A state of Emergency” much sooner to fight these out of control forest fires. We all know that fires are unpredictable and dangerous.

Major hectares (acres) are burning by the hour and everybody is waiting for paperwork to be shuffled from one desk to the other. Bureaucratic Diplomacy, that’s what they call it.

By the time the extra help arrived,

∞ thousands of acres had been destroyed.

∞ 18,000 people affected.

∞ Wildlife just, “gone”.

Just in case anybody is watching, time is of the essence. The fire and smoke are now crossing borders and still out of control. Last time I checked the smoke has reached approximately 3300 kilometers east.

By law, the government declaring the emergency has the authority to direct any and all resources at their deposal to put this catastrophic fire out, “including manpower”.

When the State of Emergency is declared?

THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS

  • In some cases, conscript citizens to help with efforts to manage the emergency
  •  In others, to authorize qualified citizens to assist in emergency management efforts
  •  Confiscate equipment and property that will assist in emergency management
  •  Make goods and resources available for distribution to those areas impacted

Round up every able body, heavy piece of equipment, high pleasure water pumps, anything and everything. Bring them from across Canada and lets put out that fire. BC has approximately 20,000 lakes and that’s a lot of water, and we have a lot of water pumps. Drain all those lakes if you have to.

Everybody’s health is at risk from the smoke.

The smoke is now going global, and the long-term damage it will have on the health and welfare of all Canadians breathing these fumes will be second to none.

Undoubtedly the extra cost in finding and moving this equipment from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean would be great. But it would justify the long-term problems that a lot of Canadians will inherit inhaling all this smoke from these fires.

Put this fire out.

These water bombers and all the aircraft equipment are tirelessly working day and night to put out these fires. I haven’t read anywhere that the water being dumped on these fires may, in fact, be evaporated before it even hits the fire.  Which means,  we need more of something to help with these fires.

As with most forest fires, you see a form of fire retardant is being used by the aircraft, which is on its own is not a good environment alternative.

Get more bodies and equipment to that Province and put that fire out!

Through all fairness, the B.C government has brought in many firefighters and equipment from around the globe, but they are still losing this fire.

Cycling is Healthy but could it be UNSAFE

cycling for fun It’s that time of year to put the ozone polluting car away and get your bicycles out. Leave that car parked as long as you can, and let’s get cracking, I mean biking.

You know there is nothing more enjoyable and that moves the most amount of mussels IN YOUR BODY AS cycling. Good for the environment, good for your health and let’s not forget, just the fun and sport of it. With all the new bike trails in our cities of Ontario whats not to like.

BUT THERE IS A DOWNSIDE to Cycling

When you, the cyclist enjoy the sun in your face, the breeze in your hair and just the peacefulness of cycling, there is a downside. It’s the 2000 lb car behind you.

Most motorists will agree that some cyclist leaves something at home, their common sense. With the adrenalin rush of cycling, most people are in a different world, they feel that the highway rules and regulations don’t apply or maybe, they don’t even GIVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT.

IM NOT IMPLYING VEHICLES ARE NOT AT FAULT

There is not a day that goes by that you don’t hear of a cyclist being hit by a car, truck or just a mirror, always something bigger and heavier than them. But through all reality, can you always blame the vehicle driver for a mishap with a cyclist?

is Bicycling SAFE

It’s not uncommon to see a cyclist moving out of his bike lane, into traffics lane, in and out.  It’s not uncommon to see cyclists on the road that are three, side by side to each other, two cyclistnot in a single file, which would totally make more sense.

Our highways system is being more accommodating to the cyclist, every year they design new highways and or revamp old ones to incorporate bigger and better bike lanes.  The trick is to train the cyclist to stay in those lanes.

I watched a cyclist go through a stop sign and motioned for him to come over; I said to him, “you know you just went through a stop sign”. His answer was,

I DON’T HAVE TO ABIDE BY THE SAME RULES AS YOU CAR DRIVERS.

“AND THERE YOU HAVE IT”.

And yes, you do have to abide by the same highway rules as everybody else, certainly, for no other reason, than,

“YOUR OWN BETTER WELFARE”.

I always keep in mind when cycling; “I WILL BE THE BIGGEST LOSER” when a 2000 lb car comes roaring down on me.

SO, AT THAT POINT, DO I CARE WHOSE FAULT IT WAS!

Part 3 of armored trucks in Canada

MORE TROOP CARRIERS

OUR police forces are buying up these troop carriers and armored trucks but for what reason? I wrote 2 blog posts on the subject and have been subtlely critical of these vehicles in our police forces. I still believe that they are an intimidating piece of equipment that belongs in a war zone other than on our streets. I also believe that in a safe environment like Canada these war machines are not warranted in our society.

Having said that, writing 2 posts on the subject, I do think that my thinking might be a little behind the times, this world is more of a dangerous place than a few years back. Do I like to think we as Canadians are exempt from terrorism, unbalanced people that would like nothing better than do us harm, just for the sake of our thinking and freedom values? But like I say, we in Canada, we also have homegrown, imbalanced people living right here, born right here with radicalized thinking.

Should we still have armored trucks in the police force?

SO, are these armored trucks in the police department warranted? Who knows.  I would like to think they don’t belong in our country or on our streets for any reason. But, I think my head is in the sand and should be pulled out soon, maybe just long enough to see the reality of all things going on, on the world stage. When researching the second part, I looked at a lot of images of demonstrations, rallies, couldn’t help but notice a trend.

You know, everyone has the right to do peaceful demonstrations, but, some of these demonstrations that just appear out of nowhere, and, where did they get these pre-made, perfect looking signs?  Did they have a printing press in their van for those special moments when they get the urge to protest about something/anything? Rallying your friends and neighbors for the high tax hikes is one thing, but these rallies are really, really quite organized and again to what extent and by … whom.

Maybe our law enforcement do see these demonstrators with their faces all masked up, for me, that’s a dead giveaway that these people are up to no good.  Maybe our finest have taken notice and notice major trouble on the horizon. Armored trucks though?

Armored trucks, swat teams, riot gear. Hate to see that in Canada.

Ex-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau

This is what our ex-Prime Minister “Pierre Trudeau” had to say about the October Crisis 1970.

“There are a lot of bleeding hearts around who just don’t like to see people with helmets and guns. All I can say is go and bleed It is more important to keep law and order in society than to be worried about weak-kneed people Society must take every means at its disposal to defend itself against the emergence of a parallel power which defies the elected power.”
