Part 3 of armored trucks in Canada

MORE TROOP CARRIERS

OUR police forces are buying up these troop carriers and armored trucks but for what reason? I wrote 2 blog posts on the subject and have been subtlely critical of these vehicles in our police forces. I still believe that they are an intimidating piece of equipment that belongs in a war zone other than on our streets. I also believe that in a safe environment like Canada these war machines are not warranted in our society.

Having said that, writing 2 posts on the subject, I do think that my thinking might be a little behind the times, this world is more of a dangerous place than a few years back. Do I like to think we as Canadians are exempt from terrorism, unbalanced people that would like nothing better than do us harm, just for the sake of our thinking and freedom values? But like I say, we in Canada, we also have homegrown, imbalanced people living right here, born right here with radicalized thinking.

Armored trucks, swat teams, riot gear. Hate to see that in Canada.

Ex-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau

This is what our ex-Prime Minister “Pierre Trudeau” had to say about the October Crisis 1970.

“There are a lot of bleeding hearts around who just don’t like to see people with helmets and guns. All I can say is go and bleed It is more important to keep law and order in society than to be worried about weak-kneed people Society must take every means at its disposal to defend itself against the emergence of a parallel power which defies the elected power.”

Armored trucks in Canada Why

Are Police forces gearing up for Civil unrest that we see armored trucks in Canada, or, am I just getting paranoid?

Years back I read an article on how our police forces are possibly gearing up for major problems in our society [civil unrest].

This American writer noticed how many of these “trucks” were being transported up and down their major highways in the U.S. and wondered why; this writer was quite concerned about the fact.

But,  that was in the US, and not that many years back.

In Canada every once in a while you will catch a glimpse of one of these armored trucks in the local news. I really didn’t do any research on the matter, probably because, I really don’t want to know how many they are out there.

But when you see small cities, communities buying up these armored trucks just to transport our troops …. Sorry, I mean… police forces to the crime scene, well,  it just seems like an overkill.

These same cities that are buying this equipment, and only my guess, up to a 1/4 of a million dollars for an armored truck, small communities can’t afford this kind of expenditure, never the less the maintenance of these brutes.

“Have to get me one of them”. is the slogan.

Even if one of these “trucks”  never see the outside of a garage, they still have to be looked over, checked over and  spent money on just to make them ready for that unexpected phone call,

“Get ready boys, we’re going in!”

I think our Finest have been going to too many policeman balls/ functions and sharing good, bad and ugly stories over a little…  “hooch”.

One officer says to the other, “What? You don’t have ONE!!!!” …. I would hate to think that’s all it takes.

Hell, one Mayor says, we don’t even have full-time firefighters, but we should have one.

Protect our Police Officers in every possible way …YES, but Armored Vehicles in Canada.

I’m sorry to see it come to that.   Eh!

On a lighter NOTE …

Many years back there was a bank robbery around the corner from where I worked, I saw two officers speeding by our door, one driving the Motor Cycle and one in the sidecar…

By the way, this fun Photo goes back a little further than I do, but you get the “picture”.
